Recap
Liverpool hosted Chelsea in the EPL as a preview of the Carabao Cup final that will take place between these two sides on February 25, 2024. Liverpool dominated the game from start to finish, it was an immense attacking display from Klopp’s team. The game ended with a score of 4-1 to Liverpool as they extended their lead back to 5 points at the top of the Premier League. Liverpool’s Connor Bradley score his first senior goal for the club while bagging two assists. The youngster is surely staking a claim to become the regular at right back and the manager will have a tough decision to make ahead of the game against Arsenal on Sunday, February 4, 2024. Luis Diaz, Jota and Szoboszlai were all on the score sheet as Liverpool looked dangerous in front of goal. That’s 13 goals in their last three matches in all competition for Jurgen Klopp’s side (who misses Salah?).
An entire article could be written about Darwin Nunez’s performance against Chelsea. The Uruguayan finished the game with an assist and a Premiere League record of 4 shots against the woodwork including a first-half penalty. Nunez continues to be a head-scratcher for both Liverpool supporters and neutrals alike.
Chelsea showed very little throughout the game with Nkunku being the only bright spark who took his chance to score a very neat and tidy goal when he came off the bench in the second half. Chelsea has a lot more work to do between now and the end of the season. When you watch Chelsea they look like an immature team that is not well coached and that partly explains their persistence league ranking in 10th position. The team’s indiscipline was probably the most note worthy thing from their performance, at several points during the game it felt like they were one tackle away from another Red card in the Premier league.
